Windows 8 should be able to run directly from a USB stick

One of the new features in Windows 8 is a feature called Windows To Go. Windows To Go is supposed to be intended for companies that want to allow their employees to work on computers outside the workplace without the risk of information being lost or stolen.

It is still uncertain whether Windows To Go will work for home users or if it will only be available for business users. It is also uncertain whether the function will be free or a paid service. According to a source, the feature will cost $50 per install.

Microsoft has yet to comment on the new feature despite it being demonstrated to analysts earlier this week. A Microsoft spokeswoman refers only to the information provided during Microsoft’s demonstration of Windows 8 on Tuesday. Then Microsoft’s Chief Developer, Steven Sinofsky said the following:

– Windows To Go is a new feature in Windows 8 that allows system administrators to create USB sticks containing a fully functional version of Windows 8 that can be run from any computer that is compatible with Windows 7 or Windows 8. It enables employees to work from any location without compromising security, Steven Sinofsky stated during Tuesday’s presentation.

Microsoft will present more information about Windows To Go during Thursday.
