The Swedish Academy’s dictionary to Wordfeud

The developers behind the popular mobile game Wordfeud have now received permission to use the Swedish Academy’s dictionary in the alphapet app.

Wordfeud has achieved great success in Sweden and the game has over 360,000 Swedish users. In an interview with Dagens Industri earlier, the game’s developer, Håkon Bertheussen, stated that he had received many complaints about the previous word list in Wordfeud.

– It seems to be very sensitive with you. Many people are angry because you can bend the words in Wordfeud, and because some words are not included. I have understood that it is the Swedish Academy’s dictionary, SAOL, which is the bible in Sweden when it comes to words, and I have tried to contact the Academy several times to ask if I can use their dictionary. But I have not received an answer, Håkon Bertheussen told the newspaper earlier this year.

In a blog post yesterday, Wordfeud announced that it has now successfully obtained permission to use SAOL in the game. The new vocabulary will be used in an updated version of the game that is expected to be released in a few days for both iPhone and Android.
