The study, which was carried out by the security company Imperva, is based on data collected from 32 million user accounts on the web service Rockyou.com. Rockyou.com was recently the victim of a hacker attack and had all user information stolen.
Of the 32 million user accounts analyzed, the ten most common passwords were as follows:
- 123456
- 12345
- 123456789
- Password
- I love you
- Princess
- Rocky you
- 1234567

The study shows that about 30 percent of users choose a password based on five characters or less. About 50 percent use names or slang expressions as passwords.
