Sourceforge is a site that has long served as a home for open source projects. Recently, the site began taking over projects it deemed abandoned, usually because the creators found other ways to distribute their programs, and altering the downloads to come with unwanted junk. Known projects affected were Openoffice, VLC, Gimp and Firefox.

The new policy means that Sourceforge will only send adware if the developers behind the software explicitly agree to it.
