Sony is considering compensation for victims

In a blog post yesterday, Sony writes that the company is now considering offering some form of compensation for users affected by the hacker attack against the Playstation Network.

– We are currently evaluating various solutions for how we can replace the affected users. We want to show our appreciation for our customers’ patience while we work to get the service back up and running, Sony writes.

It is still uncertain how many have been affected, but Sony writes that “some” of the 77 million members on the service have had their personal data exposed. A large amount of card numbers are also suspected to have been leaked.

With the greatest certainty, there will be no financial compensation as the service is free. However, some users pay for plus services that give them access to trial versions of new games and other benefits.
