Skype introduces real-time translations

Microsoft announced yesterday that within the next few weeks, the company will implement a new feature that will allow text to be translated into another language in real time.

The new translation feature will first come to the Windows version of Skype. From the start, however, there will only be support for translations between six different languages; English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Mandarin (Chinese).

The function is activated by clicking on a small globe in the upper right corner of the chat window. You can then choose which language your messages should be translated into, for example from English to French.

Microsoft hasn’t given an exact date when the new feature will be available other than that users will be able to see the globe icon within the next few weeks. It is also unknown if and when it will come to platforms other than Windows.
