Windows Mixed Reality has in a short time attracted many manufacturers to develop headsets that mix virtual reality with augmented reality via dual front-facing cameras. At the IFA fair in Berlin in September, Dell, Lenovo and Asus, among others, showed off headsets, and now Samsung is also getting into the game.

Last week, an image purporting to show a Samsung Windows Mixed Reality headset circulated, and it turned out to be genuine.

The HMD Odyssey is Samsung’s headset, and the company has squeezed in slightly better specs than the competition. The viewing angle is, for example, 110 degrees, compared to 105 or 95 degrees for the others. This is achieved through somewhat rectangular screens – Samsung uses two 3.5-inch amoled panels with 1440×1600 pixels, while other manufacturers run on 1440×1440 and LCD panels.

Two motion hand controllers are included and the headset has built-in headphones from AKG. HMD Odyssey will first go on sale in the US, China, Korea, Brazil and Hong Kong – a somewhat odd group of countries, and we naturally wonder when it will come to Europe and Sweden.
