According to Torrentfreak, the Russian communications agency Roskomnadzor is now demanding that ten popular VPN services immediately block the sites in question, in accordance with a law from 2006.
The services in question are NordVPN, ExpressVPN, IPVanish, VPN Unlimited, VyprVPN, Kaspersky Secure Connection, HideMyAss!, Hola VPN, OpenVPN and Torguard, of which the latter company has now decided to leave Russia altogether.
– At the time of writing, Torguard has taken steps to remove all servers in Russia. We have deleted the content on the servers in Saint Petersburg and Moscow and will no longer do business in the region, the company said in a statement.
Other VPN services have not yet announced whether they will follow Torguard’s example and leave Russia altogether, but the probability of that can be assessed as high.
