– Under normal circumstances, April Fool’s Day is a tradition at Google and an opportunity to celebrate what makes us an unconventional company. But this year we choose to forgo the tradition of respect for all those fighting the Covid-19 pandemic. Our main goal right now is to be helpful to people, so let’s save the jokes for next April, which will undoubtedly be much brighter, writes Google marketing director Lorraine Twohill in an internal email cited by 9to5Google.
Over the years, Google has offered lots of classic April Fools’ jokes, this year for example the Google Bubble Wrap Keyboard and the smart garden gnome Google Gnome were presented.
Last year we were offered the opportunity to play Snake in Google Maps and fortunately it is still possible to do so from this site.
