New in Firefox removes tracking from some links

With the new Firefox 102, Mozilla has added a new tool that will remove tracking that may otherwise accompany certain URL links.

Bleeping Computer reports that the new tool removes tracking from the following URLs:

  • Olytics: oly_enc_id=, oly_anon_id=
  • Drip: __s=
  • Vero: vero_id=
  • HubSpot: _hsenc=
  • Marketing: mkt_tok=
  • Facebook: fbclid=, mc_eid=

This applies regardless of whether you click on the link or paste it into an address field. You activate the tracking protection in Firefox settings by setting “Enhanced tracking protection” to “Strict”.

Note that there are still other types of links whose tracking Firefox cannot yet filter out.
