Meta is now suing the company Octopus and an individual for variously scraping data from Facebook and Instagram, reports Engadget.
Octopus offers both services and products that can be used to collect all personal data from the user profiles visible to the Octopus user’s own account. Something Meta says violates Facebook and Instagram’s user agreement as well as digital copyright.
The individual who Meta is suing in turn allegedly used automated Instagram accounts to collect data from more than 350,000 Instagram users. These have since been used to create several site clones where the content is available without Instagram users’ permission.
