Logitech Performance Mouse MX: Well-shaped mouse with sharp vision

The big news with Logitech’s new desktop mouse Performance Mouse MX is the so-called Darkfield technology, which makes it possible to use the mouse on virtually any surface. We tested it on fabric, carpets and other rough surfaces as well as on smooth and shiny surfaces. It worked without problems in all modes.

Most notably, it also worked flawlessly on such impossible surfaces as clear glass and even mirrors. The prerequisite is that the glass is at least 4 millimeters thick. So if you’ve always wanted to sit at the coffee table made of glass or have a fancy desk made of glass, you now have the opportunity to do so without having to bring the mouse pad with you.

Fits like a glove
The Performance Mouse MX is quite large and has a wing on the left for the thumb. It’s a bit like putting your hand in a glove, and it limits usage to right-handed people. Four quick shortcut buttons are built in and can also be reprogrammed with the included software.

We were generally positively disposed to the mouse and all its features. Ergonomically, it fits well in the hand, a small wing protrudes at the bottom and creates a cradle where you rest your thumb. Below the thumb is a button that you can easily access by pressing down and thus switch between open windows. To scroll backwards and forwards in open windows, there are two buttons on the edge above the thumb. Just below them is a zoom button that you press and then zoom with the scroll wheel.

Freewheel for fast scrolling
At the top of the mouse is the scroll wheel which, in addition to its normal position, can be switched to a free position so that you can scroll up and down in long documents at lightning speed. The wheel rolls freely when you speed it up and you stop it with a light touch of your finger. If you move the wheel to the left or right, it also scrolls smoothly sideways – faster the harder you press. It all works smoothly once you get used to where all the buttons are.

The mouse works wirelessly and the USB receiver is small and only protrudes half a centimeter, which means that it is not at risk of breaking off when the laptop is in the bag. You can charge the mouse with a supplied USB cable and at the same time use the mouse while it is charging. But the USB cable is only for charging, it does not replace the receiver, so during the charging time two USB ports are occupied.

If you are looking for a new wireless mouse that can handle all surfaces and that contains a set of smart functions, the Performance Mouse MX may be just what you are looking for.
