Irtouch E17DO3U-30: Build your own touchscreen with Irtouch

It’s easy to get started: Install the driver, plug in the device and then do a very simple adjustment where the program shows you where to point. Then just start pointing and clicking.

Controlling the mouse pointer with the touch function works well with a few reservations. It is, unsurprisingly, difficult to get really good precision in exactly where you are pointing. Suddenly the fingertips feel very large and clumsy. Choosing between options in a normally tightly written list, such as a list of links on a site, is a bit of a gamble.

Also, the touchscreen sometimes thinks you want to move an icon a few millimeters when you actually want to double-click. These are general problems with all touchscreens and have nothing to do with Irtouch in particular.

Right-clicking is easy, just tap on the same point for a couple of seconds. You can adjust this delay and a wide range of other settings in the simple and clear little settings panel. For example, you can activate a beep sound every time the touch screen perceives that you place a fingertip there. Annoying in the long run, but helpful when you’re trying to get the hang of using the touch screen.

Don’t let yourself be fooled
The touchpad is weatherproof, you get an extra manual that tells you how to set up the device so it is not fooled by things like snow, rain and sunshine. This plate will therefore be very interesting for boat owners who are thinking of building a substantial navigation screen into the boat.

The tablet is available today in sizes for screens of 15, 17 and 19 inches, the latter two then with the aspect ratio 5:4. Unfortunately, there is currently no variant for widescreen.
