Internet Archive saves 490,000 songs from Myspace

Recently we were able to report that Myspace accidentally deleted 50 million songs in connection with a server move.

Fortunately, the Internet Archive has managed to get hold of 490,000 of the songs, meaning that early works by Donald Glover, 2 Chainz, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Jeffree Star, Rza, Pitbull and more can now be listened to again.

The rescued songs have been donated to the Internet Archive by a group of academics who downloaded 1.3 terabytes of data from Myspace over the period 2008-2010.

The files will be made available via The Myspace Dragon Hoard (2008-2010) page, then we’ll see how long they can stay before it’s time for another server move.
