Google Duplex, the company’s extension of Google Assistant that has a human voice that can perform errands like booking a haircut over the phone, has now expanded to the UK, Australia and Canada, Venturebeat reports. The service has previously been trialled in the US and New Zealand.
Google will use the service in these countries to call and see which restaurants have closed as a result of the security work around the coronavirus. The data is then used to update Google’s search results and maps.
The service informs the people who answer that it is talking to an artificial intelligence and that the conversation is being recorded as long as the person consents.
