Like many other tech companies these days, Google is also working with ai. Earlier this year they launched their chatbot Bard, and now the company has developed a new AI for a different task, writing news articles.
The new AI goes by the name Genesis, and should be able to produce articles based on data that is fed to it, whether it concerns current events or other information. Google envisions the AI as an assistant for journalists, giving them more time for other tasks.
Google reportedly demonstrated Genesis to The New York Times, The Washington Post and the company that owns The Wall Street Journal. Engadget reports that some of those who saw the demonstration described it as disturbing.
It is possible to question how factual and correct the articles that Genesis creates are, when Google launched the chatbot Bard it gave incorrect answers to some questions. Another concern for us journalists in today’s profit-driven world is whether an AI assistant like Genesis would replace us to keep costs down.
