The new function, called “Trusted Contacts” in English, allows you to select between three and five friends as trusted contacts. Should someone hack into your account and change the password, a code will be sent to your friends that you can use to regain control of your account.
So far, the new feature is only available if you have selected English as your language on Facebook. However, it will also be available in other languages in the future.
When choosing your trusted contacts, you should choose people to whom you would also give an extra house key. It should also be people you can easily contact outside of Facebook.
Another way to secure your account is to enter your phone number so Facebook can send a unique code to your mobile phone via SMS if you can’t access your account.
