Facebook cracks down on fake reviews in the US

Just like on Amazon, fake reviews are a big problem on Facebook. A common example is less reputable companies that pay customers to leave five-star reviews.

Now, Tech Crunch is reporting that Meta has instituted a policy that prohibits such purchased reviews. Businesses on Facebook must prevent manipulated, bought and irrelevant reviews and must stop offensive images and spam. The policy must also counter false negative reviews, for example from competitors.

– Our Community Feedback Policy is intended to give equal space to all positions that follow Meta’s policies, including the entire register of positive, negative and neutral opinions, says the company.

Following an investigation by British authorities last year, Facebook removed 16,000 groups where users traded fake reviews.
