Apple censors the Dalai Lama in China

Apple has chosen to remove all iPhone applications associated with the Dala Lama from the Chinese version of the App Store. The censorship was introduced since China Unicom officially started selling iPhones in China two months ago.

– We continue to comply with local laws in the countries where we are established. Not all applications are available in all countries, says Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller.

At least five iPhone applications related to the Dalai Lama have been removed from the Chinese version of the App Store. The applications include quotes from the Dalai Lama and inspirational prayers.

Chinese authorities consider the Dalai Lama a dangerous separatist who is trying to split Tibet from China. The authorities in China have previously called the Dalai Lama “the devil with a human face”.
